Architect's Pencil

Konrad Eek's pencil

I've been watching an enjoyable course on Lynda.com about matting and framing. As the instructor, Konrad Eek, is marking his matte board for the initial cuts, he pauses for a moment to tell us that we should be using a 6H "architect's pencil," because it has a "hard lead...that leaves very little graphite residue." That's all the excuse I need to get a new pencil, although I would probably go for a Unigraph or Kimberly over that Turquoise.

Camera Deals

There are some exceptional camera deals going on right now. Amazon has the Fujifilm X100 for $999. They also have the Olympus XZ-1 for $199.

Over on ebay, Cameta has the refurbished Olympus E-PL1 for $120 in their ebay store. That's body-only, but it's a lot of camera for the money. Comes with a 1 year warranty.

Hasselblad Lunar

When the rumor sites leaked that Hasselblad was coming out with a new mirrorless camera for Photokina, a lot of fanboy sites started saying thing like "Squeeeeeeee!!! Digital X-pan!" I know I can be a little pessimistic. My first thought was "this better not be a rebadged Fuji X-Pro 1." But it's even worse, it's a Sony Nex-7 wrapped in the dashboard from my mom's old 1979 Ford Thunderbird.

Kale Friesen: Lensbaby Fashion

I don't think I've ever seen fashion/people photography shot this well with a Lensbaby. I may have to give the Edge 80 another look.

Trailer for Joel-Peter Witkin: An Objective Eye

I've been a fan of Joel-Peter Witkin's work since my friend August introduced me to one of his books when we were both art students back in the '90s.
